SKYE BOAT
Boats. What can I say about the romance of the dance of death we play with boats, ropes, weather and sea. When I was a little child I remember being surprised when my Grandmother told me she didn't like the beach. She didn't like it because the ocean frightened her. It scares me too, but being on ii, and in it and even better with a full sail at a fast clip with a mouthful of salt and a wet face, freezing fingers... well it brings us to life! In this painting a sailor gently smokes a pipe, perfectly at home with the unpredictable ocean.
For me, this picture of a small boat in full sail represents leaving the past behind and moving forward. It is certain that regardless of our heart break, the pain of loss and the despair at our own terrible fallibility we must move forward with courage! In my painting a seagull takes flight across deck expressing the joy we feel in our spirit. There is a type of freedom awaiting us and we must be brave enough to pursue it!
